How to change any graphic with a custom one (Windows/Vista/Mac)

How to change any graphic with a custom one (Windows/Vista):iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware assuming you've jailbroken/activated and installed Installer and/or SSH on your iPhone already.
  1. If you want to look through a collection of various graphics for the iPhone, check out ModmyiFone.com.
  2. If you download the stock carrier graphics above, you'll see there are two images. The image in black is called Default_CARRIER_ATT.png (substitute ATT for Cingular, T-Mobile or Vodafone as needed), the image in white is called FSO_CARRIER_ATT.png (substitute ATT for Cingular, T-Mobile or Vodafone as needed).
  3. Put the graphics you want to swap into a special folder so you can keep track of them. Depending on what carrier you use on your iPhone, ensure your replacement graphics match the carrier name. If you are someone who uses multiple SIMs in your iPhone, you'd need to swap out every pair of carrier graphics with your custom ones, otherwise they will default to the stock graphic when you swap SIMs.
  4. Launch WinSCP. Navigate to the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ folder. Drag and drop your replacement files.
  5. Click "Copy" to confirm where you want the graphic to go.
  6. Confirm the overwrite by clicking "Yes".
  7. Turn off the iPhone then turn it back on. Check your work.

The best way to deal with changing out a lot of graphics, is to make subfolders for each application and put those into your special folder.

If you are someone who uses multiple SIMs in your iPhone, you'd need to swap out every pair of carrier graphics with your custom ones, otherwise they will default to the stock graphic when you swap SIMs. Launch Fugu.
  2. Navigate to the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/ folder. Drag and drop your replacement files.
  3. Confirm the transfer by clicking "Overwrite All".
  4. Turn off the iPhone then turn it back on. Check your work.

Dead Men Tell No Tale :) Thank GoD Im Alive

If the two iPhone per person limit has been a concern during the holiday shopping season, you may be relieved to know that, according to an unnamed tipster, Apple has quietly increased the limit from two to five. Before you get all crazy in the comments, we realize that even with the two iPhone limit you could always come back for more. While we suspect this increase will only affect the kind of people who give out the king sized candy bars to trick-or-treaters, it's nice that Apple has eased up a bit.Gizmodo's tipster has mentioned that employees at the retail stores are encouraged to not say anything about the increase and the official word maintains that the limit is two. However, you should have no problem getting five. This information has not been confirmed

Are You a Hacker?

The iPhone dev team promised earlier this week that we would see an open source version of anySIM, the software which unlocks the iPhone's carrier restrictions. The group made good on their promise today by releasing the source code on Google Code. With the underpinnings in public view, it will likely benefit from community scrutinization and improvements. It was also mentioned by the team that having the code open will hopefully deter copycats and ensure that the techniques remain free.

Downgrade and/or repair the baseband (intel / PPC Mac)

The only reason I can think of to downgrade the baseband would be to fix a corrupted IMEI. In this case the IMEI would change 004999010640000.Repairing the baseband (which can be performed independently from downgrading), is only done when you used anySIM prior to version 1.1, or iUnlock or the hardware unlock method to unlock your iPhone. When you repair the baseband you must be on 1.0.2 firmware. This is done just before updating to the newer firmware that you want. Make sure you are downloading the correct one. It's not a good idea to have both programs installed at the same time as they will conflict with each other since they both use a binary with the same name!

Downgrading firmware 1.1.1 (04.01.13_G) baseband to firmware 1.0.2 (03.14.08_G) baseband
  1. First you need to downgrade your firmware to 1.0.2 using iTunes. If you don't already have the firmware, you can download it here. Do not decompress this file, or allow your browser to decompress it. Save it wherever you'd like.
  2. In my case the iPhone is not activated yet, so I have to put it into DFU mode. If yours is activated already you don't have to do this. Restore the iPhone to 1.0.2 firmware by putting the iPhone into DFU mode. Do this by pressing and holding the Home button, and the Sleep/Wake button.
  3. Hold the buttons 10 seconds and the screen will go black. Let go of the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the Home button for another 10 seconds and iTunes will detect that the iPhone is in recovery mode.
  4. Press Option then click the Restore button.
  5. A file browser will open. Navigate to where you downloaded your 1.0.2 firmware file. Select it and click Open.
  6. Various messages will appear while the process continues.
  7. You will then get an error 1013 message. Click OK. The recovery mode graphic will appear again, click OK.
  8. Eject the iPhone from iTunes and close iTunes.
  9. Download iNdependence 1.3 Beta 2 here. Launch iNdependence. It will get the iPhone out of recovery mode (displaying this message with a spinning wheel initially), and send it to the activate iPhone screen.
  10. Go to the 1.0.2 firmware file you downloaded earlier and unzip the file. Back in iNdependence click the Activate Phone button. A file browser will open, navigate to where you unzipped the 1.0.2 firmware file and click Open. You'll see Waiting for jail break...
  11. Press the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds to get the red slider arrow to appear to shut down the iPhone. Press Sleep/Wake again to turn it on.
  12. When you get the success message, click "OK".
  13. Click the "SSH" tab and click the "Install SSH/SFTP/SCP" button.
  14. This screen will appear. Hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few second to get the red slider arrow to appear to shut down the iPhone. Press Sleep/Wake again to turn it on.
  15. A similar screen will appear. Do it all over again. Click "OK" at the success pop up. Close iNdependence.
  16. Press the Home button on the iPhone, then Settings, General, Auto-Lock then Never.
  17. Go back to the Settings screen, press Wi-Fi, select your network name, then enter your password and press Join. Now press the blue arrow next to your network name to get your iPhone's IP address.
  18. Download the Installer program (version 3.0b8) here. Decompress the download and you'll be left with this file. Place it anywhere you'd like on your computer.
  19. Launch Fugu and log into the iPhone. Try dottie or alpine as the password. Navigate to the /Applications folder. Copy the Installer.app folder to this directory.
  20. Go into the Installer.app folder and verify that the file Installer has 0755 permissions. Right click the file and select Get Info.
  21. In this pop up, enter 0755 in the Octal Mode Representation box then click Apply.
  22. Restart the iPhone. Launch the Installer. Update the Installer if you need to. Otherwise, press the Install icon and scroll down to the Sources folder and press it.
  23. Press Community Sources and install it. When it has finished and you are back at the list of folders, scroll down to System and press it.
  24. Press BSD Subsystem and install it. When it has finished press the Sources button. Then press the Edit button.
  25. Press the Add button. Enter hacktheiphone.com/1.xml and then press OK.
  26. Press Done. Press Refresh.
  27. You should now see my source listed and the folder name Hack the iPhone tools.
  28. Back in the Installer, press the Install icon and scroll down to the Hack the iPhone tools folder and press it. Press Downgrade baseband #2.
  29. There are two of them, this particular version is for use on 04.02.13_G baseband only. Install it. Once it has finished go back into this folder and install Term-vt100 if you need to. When it has finished press the Home button to relaunch the SpringBoard.
  30. Launch the Terminal. Enter: cd /usr/bin Then enter restorebb
  31. Lots and lots of code will scroll by. Finally the process will end at this point.
  32. To verify it worked, press Home, then Settings, General, About. It worked, this phone is now on 03.14.08_G. You are now done downgrading the baseband.
  33. If you don't need to downgrade you can just start here. Launch the Installer, (you should have added my website as a source already) and scroll down to the Hack the iPhone tools folder, then install the Repair baseband program.
  34. Launch the Terminal. Enter: cd /usr/bin Then enter: virginize A lot of code will scroll by and finally the process will end at this point. You are now ready to update/restore your iPhone as needed.

1.1.3 iPhone Firmware Confirmed by more than One

  • "Apple may be preparing a significant update for the iPhone as early as this weekend that will have some heavily requested features, according to a claim from CNET France," Electronista reports.
  • "The site points to multiple reports that a 1.1.3 upgrade for the iPhone will appear by Saturday which adds both a disk mode for storing general data on the device and a voice recording mode for capturing lectures or voice memos," Electronista reports.
  • "It is also likely to break existing modifications to the firmware that allow the iPhone to run third-party code or unlock the device to run with carriers outside of those approved by Apple," Electronista reports.

Hmm.....

3G Coming Very Soon...As usual,"No Comment"

CNBC's Jim Goldman claims that, according to "a very good source" with "good connections to Apple's Asian manufacturing partners", Apple will be releasing a 3G capable version of the iPhone some time around May or June. While there have been numerous rumors before this, Randall Stephenson reported that a 3G model would be available in 2008.Of course, with news of a new iPhone showing up so close to the holidays, there is a chance that it may cause some to rethink their holiday plans in favor of waiting for the new device, but this will most likely not have a major impact on Apple’s or AT&T’s sales. Also, Goldman did contact an Apple spokesman, and didn’t respond.

Picture Messaging Coming to Hacked iPhones..

A native MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) app has just been released for the iPhone. The app allows you to send multimedia like photos to other people via a text-messaging, something that the iPhone isn't currently capable of. The current 0.1 version is still limited in that it only allows sending MMS messages and will not receive them.Right now the app is young and still in development, and it requires a bit of tinkering and setup to work with the provider you use, but the concept is good. Unfortunately right now it's limited to sending MMS to people that already have MMS enabled.

You can learn more about the app at the author's blog.
The app can be installed using the latest version of Installer.app

New 1.1.3 iPhone Firmware. Are you Ready?

Before i say anything make sure u check out the previous posting on Software Updates . Now You've been wanting the bells and whistles for a while and Apple may deliver them this weekend. According to a claim for CNET France (carried over in English on MacNN), multiple reports indicate that iPhone/iPod touch firmware may be upgraded to version 1.1.3 as early as this Saturday. The upgrade is reputed to add a disk mode for storing general data on the iPhone as well as include a voice recording mode for adding voice memos to the handset.Further details are sketchy at the moment, but the update is expected to break existing modifications to the iPhone's firmware that allow the iPhone to run third party applications as well as function on alternate wireless carriers outside of those approved by Apple. I guess we wont know untill we see it :) If you have an unlocked iPhone with a diferent carrier other than AT&T do not update or upgrade your firmware. It will lock your iPhone. If you have a hacked/jailbroken AT&T iPhone, updating your firmware will re-lock your iPhone and you will only be able to use the AT&T native functions your 3rd party apps will be gone and you wont be able to use different sim cards.

Software Updates

The reason for this posting is for people to have access to all the software at one place. Below i will list the newest most updated software released. Also, Apple will be coming out with the new 1.1.3 Firmware update very soon. Do not expect to see any drastic changes. Expect them when they come out with 2.0 or something like that. The DevTeam does not think an unlocking software will be ready untill the new 1.1.3 firmware comes out. The activation, jailbreaking, and decryption softwares are listed below. If you have any questions check out my Contact Information and email me. Enjoy!

  • Currently impossible with software only solutions. Probably possible when apple releases next firmware version (1.1.3).

  • It is however posible to jailbreak and activate your 1.1.2

  • How, Well here it goes:

  • Downgrade to 1.1.1 even if you have the newest firmware,

  • Install OktoPrep from installer on iphone tweaks (1.1.1)

  • Upgrade to 1.1.2 using iTunes

  • Jailbreak using this jailbreak.rar

Check out the new Face of GoOgLe

People have wanted this for a while and it's finally here. Internet search firm Google has launched an iPhone-formatted version of its home page. American users who visit google.com from an iPhone are now redirected here to a new web site. Navigation tabs at the top of the page now guide the user to Gmail, Calendar, Reader and other features.Other changes include cleaner formatting for the iPhone such as larger fonts, tables and better vertical orientation to eliminate the need for horizontal scrolling. The site should also work properly on the iPod touch, but this appears to be restricted to American visitors at present, as accounts suggest that Canadians are not being redirected

Zhuh voodreh...

French wireless carrier Orange has released sales information pointing toward 30,000 iPhones sold within five days of the handset's release in France. The company said that 20% of the iPhone's customers opted for an unlocked unit, which sold for 749 euros without a contract as opposed to 399 euros for an iPhone with a two-year contract with Orange.Orange also stated that 48% of people buying the phones were new customers for the network.

Safari Plug In

iPhone hacker hachu has created probably one of the coolest hacks yet. He has developed a download plug-in for MobileSafari that allows you to download data straight off the internet directly to your iPhone or iPod touch. It stores the files in the local disk in the /var/root/Downloads folder.Once you download the package, you can set it to download specific file types (such as MP3s, for example), which will then download to your device. In conjunction with this, Erica Sadun has modified her SedFile app to search ~/Downloads as well as ~/Media/Documents, allowing you to email, chare and play back the downloaded media on demand. You can download hachu's plugin and read what to do with it here, and Erica's modified modded SedFile app here.

Message to All the Readers

Good day to you All ! From the research i have done, i came to a conclusion that in the next couple of weeks many things will happen with the iPhone. I think, the new out of the box iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware will have a Hack / Unlock in the VERY near future. Apple will probably also come out with another firmware in a couple of weeks ( maybe 4-6 ). Many programs and new gadgets will come out and i will have to post all of it on this blog for Macs and Windows. Why? Well because i love the iPhone( yes, i am a proud owner). From the # of visitors i have on my site, it would be safe to say that many people share my passion.
With all these things happening i will need to post new Guides, Softwares, Hacks, Unlocks and more Guides. I do not have much time with everything going on in my life now, and the time i do have goes into this blog. I would EXTREMELY APPRECIATE a few donations. Anything is good. Donations not required, but right now are GREATELY appreciated. All the information on this blog is free and open for you guys to use. Now that girl above will be very mad if you people do not donate and will punish you if you do. Take your pick :) Remember you can always contact me at Fozystyles @ Yahoo.com or iTouchiPhone @ Yahoo.com .

The Scrolling Victory is Mine

Thanks to it's finger-based input, navigation on the iPhone is super easy. In fact, just about the only thing that isn't easy is scrolling long web pages. Ah, but wait, here comes the tip! Say you're browsing Digg, and when you get to the bottom of the page, you suddenly have the urge to look up something in Wikipedia. Sure, you can flick your way up to the top, but there's a better way. When the address bar slides off screen, all you do to reach the top again is tap the status bar. Doing this will cause the browser to quickly scroll up, revealing the address bar. Enjoy!

Is the iPhone Waiting for a Cab to Google Video?

Google Video is where it's at. It has a much better interface and it's a hotbed for documentaries. The only problem is that Google Video is based on Flash. Fortunately, there's a really easy work-around built right in to Google Video.
Because Google allows you to download (most) videos from their site in an iPod compatible format, all you need to do is download that version of the video. To do this, pull up Google Video and search for a video as you normally would. When you actually get to the video, you're not going to see much. To play the video, click the little select list on the right and select "Video iPod/Sony PSP" and press "Done". Press download and the video will come up shortly.

Don't You just Love Free and Generous AnySim

Hey guys, remember when i wrote a little story about the iPhone Dev Team going publim with the AnySim Program? Well it's here. The iPhone Dev Team has weighed the pro's and con's and asked for the community's input, and they have made their decision. They announced today the official release of anySIM as Open Source software under the General Public License. They have also clarified the reasoning for the move. They said that not only will having the software be open-source help with quality assurance, but they hope it will also help deter those who might try to rip off their original code. Said Dev Team member Sam, " "we kept the tool closed so far in the fair hope that our wish [for people to] respect our work would be accepted, but some arrogant punks had to simply continue to rip [us] off."There have apparently been a few copies of their code already by a few rogue posers that are looking for a little extra glory themselves. Apparently the "Elite Dev Team" are one of the culprits as well. "Their tool is closed source and this is clearly against our expressed wish," the iPhone Dev Team points out, "in addition to using our code, they also striped out the license and changed the GUI to place their name in bold on it."The team says that the GPL will help the community to avoid such copies. They note the following part of the GPL:

* a) The work must carry prominent notices stating that you modified it, and giving a relevant date. * b) The work must carry prominent notices stating that it is released under this License and any conditions added under section 7. This requirement modifies the requirement in section 4 to "keep intact all notices". * c) You must license the entire work, as a whole, under this License to anyone who comes into possession of a copy. This License will therefore apply, along with any applicable section 7 additional terms, to the whole of the work, and all its parts, regardless of how they are packaged. This License gives no permission to license the work in any other way, but it does not invalidate such permission if you have separately received it. * d) If the work has interactive user interfaces, each must display Appropriate Legal Notices; however, if the Program has interactive interfaces that do not display Appropriate Legal Notices, your work need not make them do so."
In addition, the Dev Team also announced that the reason for the anySIM 1.1.2 delay is that they are waiting until they can ""assure a 99% working state in a sane environment." Hopefully the move to Open Source will help move things along.

iTunes just Can't Get Enough

I tend to feel a little weird watching a movie on my iPhone if I'm on the train. Then I remember I can and it's cool to be able to do so. A new report released by Pali Research analyst Richard Greenfield states that Apple has conceded to studio demands and agreed to a higher wholesale price (estimated to be around $15) for movies sold through the iTunes Store. The report also states that given pressure from firms such as Amazon.com, Apple and Twentieth Century Fox are in talks to add the studio's content to the iTunes Store. In addition to better positioning themselves towards a digital market, movie studios are also looking to create "premium" versions of DVDs that include portable versions of the movie that can play on an iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. Twentieth Century Fox recently attempted a similar effort with the release of its "Live Free or Die Hard" DVD, which includes a digital copy of the movie protected with Microsoft's Plays for Sure Digital Rights Management code included in the content. All this according to New York times

Bye Bye Windows Mobile..Night Rider

Net Applications posted their quarterly browser market share report this weekend, and the results were surprisingly in Apple's favor. Not only did the Mac show solid gains, but the iPhone did exceptionally well in comparison to it's competition.True, it's only 0.9%, but while it sounds small, it's phenomenal considering the short amount of time the iPhone has been on the market. Add to that .01% for the iPod touch, and the Apple mobile platform makes up every 1000 pageviews on the internet. All of the Windows platforms put together only managed around 66%. Windows CE devices were around .06%. That's a full .03% under the iPhone. It took the mobile Windows platform 10 years to get where it is today, and the iPhone surpassed it in a fraction of a year. That's not the end of it, either. With it's rapid growth, it's quickly moving in the direction of desktop territory. Windows 95 only has four times the marketshare as the iPhone. And Linux, just over five times (.57%). At this rate, the iPhone/iPod platform might grow to become the third largest computing platform by the end of next year

iPhone is Stickin' it to Zune

Those of you looking for a way to truly stick it to those Zune fans might like this one. An independant developer has created an automatic GUI syncing tool that sync's a folder on your computer to a folder on your iPhone/iTouch. It's still in the young development stages, so it's still kinda lame, but it's still being worked on and there is more to come.
It's called iphone-isync, and version 0.4 was just released, providing a few new features and numerous bug fixes. You can learn more about iSync at the Google Code page.

How much Bigger do You want Your iPhone to Be?

Have you been noticing that the alloted battery life of the iPhone isn't enough for you? Mophie has a product that might be for you. It's the mStation mobile juice pack for iPhone. It's essentially an external battery pack that looks like a stylish case.
Despite adding a little extra bulk to your iPhone, it looks great, and will offer up to 250 extra hours of standby time, 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback, and 24 hours of audio playback. It uses the standard iPhone plug to plug into the iPhone's port on the bottom. It will be made available in the middle of this month, but they're currently taking pre-orders for $99.95. You can take a look at this product on their site.

Competition for the iPhone? It's Marvelous!

According to an alleged leak, RIM's new BlackBerry 9100 will serve as their answer to Apple's iPhone by sporting several more advanced features. It will have a touchscreen of the same size and 320x480 resolution, as well as 3G over HSPA. Carmi Levy, analyst with AR Communications Inc., thinks that this will make it less of a business device."The 9000 is supposed to be a touch-screen device, very similar in form factor to the iPhone," Levy says. "Which means that it is not an enterprise-friendly device."It also has both real GPS and Wi-Fi. Further more, it may also be slightly faster with a 624MHz Intel XScale processor instead of the iPhone's 620MHz ARM chip.It contains all of the same features of previous models. It will most likely have at least a 2 megapixel camera, but it may see a 3.2 one by that time.
Because of the large screen, it is assumed that it will not contain a physichal keyboard, though a slide-out one is possible. It is predicted that it will be announced some time around winter of 2008

Verizon is the Samurai of All Wireless Networks

You can hate all you want but Consumer Reports has published their latest Annual Survey of Cellphone Service in their 2008 issue. They note that for the bast 6 years, cellphone service has been "among the lower rated services we survey". They found that "fewer than half of the respondents were completely or very satisfied with their cellphone service." They polled 47,629 cellphone users in the United States and asked them to rank their service carrier in terms of the least call static, dropped calls, circuts full and lack of service for 20 major metropolitan areas in the US. The results: Verizon came out on top yet again, with an approvalrating of around 70%, followed by T-Mobile. AT&T was well-behind the forerunners, and Sprint was dead last.

  1. Verizon Wireless is "among the better carriers this year and in our earlier surveys."
  2. T-Mobile was described as "another solid performer that often offers more for your money."
  3. Alltel Wireless is "One of the better providers in the three metro areas for which we had adequate survey data."
  4. AT&T fell behind, called "Home of iPhone, but trails the better carriers in almost all respects."
  5. Sprint was last place, receiving the dubious honor of being in the "bottom ranks of carriers we rate."

Visual Voicemail, AT&T,iPhone and Klausner All wired Together.

Klausner Technologies is hitting Apple and AT&T with a hefty patent infringement suit, claiming that they have infringed on his patent with the iPhone's visual voicemail feature that allows users to retrieve messages in whichever order they chose. The suit was filed earlier today and cites patents 5,572,576 and 5,283,818, both owned by Klausner. Klausner is an independent firm owned by a group of private investors that have successfully defended their patent thus far. They have also licensed the patent out to many other industry heavyweights that currently provide a similar visual voicemail service to that of the iPhone, such as AOL for AOL Voicemail and Vonage Holdings for Vonage Voicemail Plus. Klausner is seeking damages and future royalties estimated at $360 million. "We have litigated this patent successfully on two prior occasions," said Greg Dovel of Dovel & Luner, counsel for Klausner. "With the signing of each new licensee, we continue to receive further confirmation of the strength of our visual voicemail patents."They also filed similar claims separately against Comcast Corporation, Cablevision Systems Corp. and eBay Inc.’s Skype with damages and future royalties estimated at $300 million.

Another Exploit Update from GeoHotz

Yes, another exploit was written by GeoHotz, which means that the new 1.1.2 iPhone Firmware Unlock is coming soon. It will be either a software or hardware unlock/hack. I really hope it's a software hack, just like the Dev team created for us during the 1.1.1 Firmware Era. Ok enough, and the iPhone Guru said," Update on the exploits. A16 is a buried via, but it is right at the edge of the chip. Just scrape the epoxy away and hook a wire under there. I'd do it but a lot of my hardware stuff is at RIT. And I didn't say the software exploit would be easy, but this paper alludes to 2/3 of the message being spoofable. 2/3 is 3 bytes away from how much we need, and 3 bytes can be brute forced easily enough. Of course 1/3 is trivial to exploit with a cube root, I understand that math well enough." Ok cool, did everyone understand that? What that means is IT'S COMING! Keep checking back guys. I will have more posts maybe today maybe tomorrow. Be sure of one thing, once the new unlock is out, i will be posting more guides on unlocking the new firmware on Macs and Windows. I will also be posting the new firmware for download and all new softwares needed to Rip Copy and Abuse the Apple iPhone to Its Fullest capabilities.

I would also like to thank Ink2Go for his generous donation, we need more supporters like him. I need your support people. In order for me to run this site at the pace it is running. Remember donations are not required, but are greatly appreciated! Come back soon for Updates.

German Courts Pouring Water into a Glass of Fire ?

Legal proceedings surrounding the iPhone are still in the works as Germany's Hamburg District Court has announced that it has delayed a ruling on German sales of the iPhone until tomorrow. The injunction, which was granted to wireless carrier Vodafone, pushed exclusive iPhone wireless carrier T-Mobile to release an unlocked iPhone available for €999 in response to Vodafone's criticism of tying the iPhone to an exclusive carrier. T-Mobile has since replied that it would consider seeking damages against Vodafone concerning lost sales.
German law currently forbids attaching a cellphone/handset to a single carrier and it's also common practice for handsets to be unlockable. Some countries, such as France, forbid exclusive contracts entirely. T-Mobile has claimed that it is the only carrier capable of supporting the iPhone's EDGE capabilities nationwide.Stay tuned for more information on this case as it becomes available.

Stylus for the iPhone and iTouch?

As Steve Jobs said at the Macworld announcement of the iPhone, one of the best things about the iPhone is that it doesn't need a stylus, but what about those of us who do need one anyway? Ok, we really can't think of a case where that would be true, but maybe you just like the idea of going against the grain. Enter the Pogo Stylus. The manufacturer claims that this is the first stylus of it's kind, and has been "has been engineered using a patent-pending technology to simulate the touch of a finger on the Multi-Touch display." Apart from that, they don't reveal how it works. nonetheless, it does exactly what it needs to do, allowing you to click and tap and flick with greater dexterity and precision than with your fingers

Open Sourcing for the Dev Team

In an attempt to better keep up with all of Apple's blocking efforts, the iPhone Dev Team is considering drawing resources from the community by open-sourcing AnySim, the free app used to unlock the iPhone. iPhone Dev member Sam said that the move could "open a lot of possibilities for the future," such as avoiding some dangerous binary patches that first created the problems with iPhone bricking.

Apple Ends Talks with China Mobile

Apparently the iPhone negotiation situation with China Mobile was not as ideal as we initially expected. According Chinese newspaper Southern Daily, the talks that began earlier this month have come to a stand-still between the companies. Instead, Apple has moved on to other companies in the area.Apparently the thing that stopped this deal was Apple's demand for revenue sharing, the same one that created so much turbulence among the other carriers. It seems that it is something totally unheard of in China, and China Mobile refused the idea. On the contrary, however, China Mobile told Bloomberg that the Southern Daily story was false, and that talks are still going between the companies.
With China Mobile out of the picture, Apple isn't left with many options. The only other viable option is probably China Unicorn. If Apple can manage to close a deal soon, then it could go on sale as soon as Summer of 2008. Although, Apple may have to lower the price for sale in China, considering the price of a US iPhone would add up to nearly twice a month's salary for many Chinese people.
