Downgrade and Jailbreak Your iTouch iPod and update to 1.1.2 Firmware

Step 1 Downgrade to 1.1.1 ( if required)

  1. Download the iPod touch 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file from Apple. Do this in Firefox .

  2. Connect your iPod touch to your PC or Mac.

  3. Put your iPod touch into restore mode: - first, turn off the ipod (slide to power off). - second, turn it back on but when the apple logo appears, hold down the home button until it shows the “connect to itunes” picture. Now your ipod is in recovery mode Next, press and hold the Shift key on Windows or the Option key on Mac (In iTunes), then click Restore in iTunes. It will open up the File dialog. Now you can select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier.

Note: Currently Itunes versions 7.4 and up will install ipod touch operation software 1.1.1

Step 2: Jailbreaking 1.1.1

  1. Launch Safari on your iPod Touch.

  2. Visit http://jailbreakme.com/, Scroll down to the bottom, click “Install AppSnapp”. Safari will exit and you’ll return to your springboard. Slide to unlock, you are now jailbroken and are able to use Installer.app.

  3. Launch Installer.app (version 3). Click on the Install section at the bottom.

  4. Scroll down to All Packages.Select OktoPrep.Click Install

  5. Connect your device to your computer

  6. Click Update. Do NOT click on restore. If you do, everything you have done up until this point will have to be repeated.

  7. Eject your device from iTunes but keep it connected to your computer. Close iTunes.

  8. Download and extract the 1.1.2 Jailbreak Utility. Extract it to /tmp/ if you are using a Mac.

  9. On Windows make sure you have Java installed then double click on windows.bat, on a Mac, double click on jailbreak.jar

  10. Congratulations! You’ve jailbroken 1.1.2!

One thing when you install the installer app DO NOT INSTALL ANY TYPE OF NEW KEYBOARDS. TRUST ME IT WILL MESS UP YOUR IPOD.If you want to run Mobile Mail, Stocks, Weather, Notes, and Maps on your iPod Touch with 1.1.2 installed, make sure you use the 1.1.2 iPhone apps, which are available here: http://rapidshare.com/files/69144568/iPhoneApps112.zip.html

I have powered of, using the slider, then power on again and hold down the home button when the apple comes up. after about 5 seconds all the icons come up...

What am I doing wrong?

-Administration- said...

rosco,
You need to have your iTouch connected to itunes while you put it into recovery mode

-Administration- said...

thesaint,
You need to download the prep package first then the app.

go to the bottom of the page via link above and you will find the Java download for free. then reinstall the 1.1.2 jailbreak and create a new account.
then try the guide again.

Hi,

I downgraded from 1.2 to 1.1. Then installed the installer and that 'oktoprep' file. I downloaded the jailbreak software and followed the instructions to UPDATE then eject itouch while cable connected.

THe dos window opens up but after going thorugh uploading core files etc. I am stuck at 'reading flash image 0/314572800'. My computer doesn't hang and that dos window hasn't crashed or anything. Is it supposed to be like that?

Thanks dude

-Administration- said...

hey,
it sound like you don't have Java on your computer. If you don't then download it straight from here:http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If you have Java, then uninstall the 1.1.2 jailbreak and install it again, create a new account! and then try all over. If this still doesn't work, email me at : itouchiphone@yahoo . com
and we can talk.
Hope this Helps

So i did all that the instructions asked and it finally worked; until i got to the install applesnapp and everytime i click it on my iTouch it doesnt do anything... i waited and waited and checked and tried again and it isnt working... anyone know why?

-Administration- said...

Shay,
You sure you have a GOOD and STRONG WiFi connection when you go to jailbreakme.com?
That is the most important part. As long as you ar eon 1.1.1 firmware then jailbreakme.coom should work like butter. Re-start your itouch, connect to wifi again and try it again. It should work

coleman42 said...

i have downloaded and extracted jailbreak 1.1.2 for windows and everything was going good until i double clicked windows.bat and it took me to the c:\windows\system and it was going good until it reached reading flash images. i need help please

Hi.

great guide, looks very clear.

Just wondered if this guide is confirmed 100% with versions 1.1.3?

i unfortunately upgraded, and am now trying to get back so i can successfully jailbreak.

I have read many reviews of people having problems jailbreaking 1.1.3 and wondered if i am likely to experience the same problems?

Many thanks
hurrenl

hurr3nl said...

hi.

i decided to follow your guide, after reading reviews saying this worked with 1.1.3.

unfortunately i am experiencing the same problems as "theitdepot"
it says an unknown error has occured. I downloaded the file from this site, and the ipod displays a lead entering the Itunes symbol. i hold shift, click restore, select the filename as state by "theitdepot". and it begins to extract. A few seconds later it fails.

Not too sure what im doing wrong any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

-Administration- said...

if you are running firmware 1.1.3 you need to downgrade to 1.1.2 then to 1.1.1 You can jump from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 right away.
hope it helps.
restore your itouch to 1.1.3 and then follow the order i just told you.

James Ives said...

Hi, I've tried your guide a few times. I have 1.1.2 _3b48b.restore. My only guess is that is the problem. It all goes fine untill it tries to reboot into jailbroken 1.1.2. It gets stuck in recovery mode. the Jailbreak app cant boot it out of it either. Hope you can help.

-Administration- said...

if you have a jailbroken 1.1.1, meaning you have the installer icon on your springboard, then theres really non need to update to 1.1.2 unless you really want to.if you do, then go into installer go inot 1.1.1 tweaks download the oktoprep and donload the jailbreak for 1.1.2 in the guide onto your computer and foolow the instructions on the guide

Hey
you need to just update to the latest firmware straight from iTunes and use the iliberty guide in the itouch section of the legend. No need to downgrade most applications don't even work on 1.1.1 or 1.1.2

How do i get ROMs onto my itouch so that I can play the games? Which one do you prefer 1.1.4 or 1.1.3 because some of the applications i try to use say I have to use either 1.1.1-1.1.3 so which one is better? and thanks for the last comment it was very helpful

-Administration- said...

evrything work on 1.1.4 except customize. if you are a fan of customize then you should stay oon 1.1.3.
As far as, ROM(s), you should use iBrickr to place games in the folders specified by the game developers. just google ibrickr and you should find a download link. iBrickr lets you access any file and any folder on your iPhone. Very helpful for that, otherwise it's an outdated software.
