Apple is keeping silent about one of the potentially most lucrative and controversial uses of its iPhone: porn, according to a Time Magazine report.The report notes that due to the iPhone's video dexterity and the speed promised by the 3G iPhone it has become a dream come true for porn purveyors. They mention that Google Trends, which measures Web buzz, shows a sharp increase over the past year in the popularity of the term "iPhone porn."
The iPhone's large screen size, fast Web access and ease of use are just part of it. Mobile Safari has made it extremely easy to port a website to the iPhone. "It's by far the porn-friendliest phone," says Devan Cypher, spokesperson for San Francisco-based Sin City Entertainment. Numerous iPhone-specific porn sites have been launched in recent months. "There are a few hundred iPhone porn sites now in use," says Farley Cahen, vice president of business development for AVN Media Network. Many others are currently in the works targeting iPhone 2.0, which goes on sale July 11.
It is likely that the iPhone's interaction with porn will not only be web based. With 250,000+ programming kits downloaded, developers are likely creating native porn applications as well. "I wish there was an application that allowed you to undress people by dragging your fingers across the screen and literally dragging it off," Swifer wrote on iPhonematters.com. Such applications are likely well on the way.
