Apple Patent Points to Possible Flip Phone Design

Apple seems to be doing pretty well with its candy bar cell phone design, but a recently discovered patent filing shows a possible iPhone flip phone of sorts among other dual-screen design possibilities. The patent also describes a "dual sided trackpad," which would be translucent and feature touch sensitive panels on each side, allowing for use in either an open or closed position.

Other possible features described within the patent application include possibilities for laptops and tablets based around the technology. In the case of the iPhone, the touchpad would upen a small window on the main display, allowing the unit to work like a SlideShow display under Mac OS X 10.5.

These changes may not be seen immediately, but it's interesting stuff for somewhere down the road...
