Jailbreak 1.1.3 for iPhone and iPod Touch : Tutorial

If you’re iPhone or Touch isn’t jailbroken yet, this isn’t for you. But if you’re using a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 Jailbroken handheld, this is the easiest yet. Using the installer.app you’ve already installed, you can now update your system software to 1.1.3. The developers of this new jailbreak say that some 3rd party apps like SummerBoard Prefs won't work but are promising a fix.In all, the update takes about 45 minutes, but it’s a painless 45 minutes that you can use to do other things, like read my blog. You’ll need a decent Wi-Fi connection for your iPhone or iPod Touch. The faster the connection, the faster it’ll upgrade.

  • To start, make sure that installer.app and the BSD subsystem are up to date. If they are, back out to the settings menu and make sure your autolock is disabled. Then, in installer.ap, simply add http://ijailbreak.com/repo.plist to the sources list in Installer (Sources -> Edit -> Add -> http://ijailbreak.com/repo.plist), then refresh your sources. Go back to the installable packages list and you should have a category called “iJailBreakMobile”. From there, choose the 1.1.1 installer or the 1.1.2 installer, based on which firmware you’re running. This will put a new icon on your device, called iJailbreak. Run it.

  • You’ll be asked to make sure a few things are set up, and if they are, it’ll start the download process. This part can take awhile, as it’s downloading the real 1.1.3 firmware from Apple.

  • Just let it run. At times, it’ll look like it’s giving an error or freezing, but it’s supposed to look like that. If successful, which it should be if you’ve followed my instructions, it’ll reboot into 1.1.3, ready to go. If not, you’ll reboot to wherever you were at before, so you can give it another go.

  • When it’s done, you’ll want to go to the installer app again and install “iPod Touch Software Upgrade” if you’re on a Touch. It’ll install a new program called iJailbreak that looks just like the last one. Hit it to reboot with all the new apps (Mail, Maps, etc.) and the “wiggly icon” arrangement thing.

  • When you’re all done, you’ll also want to run the app called “Remove 1.1.3 Upgrade Data” if you’re upgrading for 1.1.1, as the application is left on your device when it’s done, and it takes up space on your device that you’d love to have back.

Follow all the instructions here and you should be good. You will retain your unlock. So no worries. If you like the guide and find yourself using it, please show support by donating any amount.

Hey Guys,
Hope this works for you. Some sources said that if the program crashes and doesn't work, wipe out all your 3rd party apps and try it again. It should work. Try it without deleting your apps first and then use this as a backup plan.

UPDATE: There are apparently some problems with installing iPhone apps if you are upgrading from 1.1.2, where the Terminal asks you for a password. A fix will be out tomorrow! By the way, if you’re getting syntax errors related to a smiley face, refresh your sources, then uninstall iJailBreak, reinstall, and start over

If you are getting, “package download failed” error then re-fresh your installer sources and try installing and running the program again

Also as a warning: many people are having trouble...many people are successfuly updating and using the wiggly icons they so desperately want. You have 3 options to choose from now: Nate's, Dev Team and iJailbreak. I'm sure more are coming!

Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this post, but if I have anySIM 1.1 running on 1.1.1 firmware and perform this Jailbreak, can I expect my phone to recognize my T-Mobile sim after the upgrade?

eospso and others,
Don't use this method. Use this link: http://hacktheiphoneitouch.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-update-to-and-jailbreak-113.html

that's the official jailbreak from the dev team. If you have a jailbroken and unlocked 1.1.2 this will jailbreak and upgrade your phone/ipod to 1.1.3 and you WILL keep your unlock! If you have 1.1.1 then you need to update to 1.1.2 and then follow the first link i gave you in this comment. To upgrade from unlocked and jailbroken 1.1.1 to an unlocked and jailbroken 1.1.2 go here: http://hacktheiphoneitouch.blogspot.com/2007/12/112-iphones-firmware-hacks-current.html
just choose your computer(windows or Mac)
Best of Luck to you all!

restore your phone to whatever firmware you had before you tried this jailbreak and follow the firections here if you have a jailbroken 1.1.2:
http://hacktheiphoneitouch.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-update-to-and-jailbreak-113.html

if you have 1.1.1, then you need to update to 1.1.2 by going to the following link(choose windows or mac) and then go to the first link, this method has too many bugs:

What kind of bugs? I did it with this method and it seemed fine, am I missing something??I orginally had this with 1.1.3, then i had to downgrade using the IPUC method, then jailbroke then curently used this ijailbreak method to 1.1.3. So I would have to get back to 1.1.1, then to 1.1.2, but where do I get this Firmware(cant find 1.1.2), and does anybody else have this issue , i am a little confused in regards to my itouch on 1.1.3 jailbroken???

I'm taking the stance of not working on determing which guides in my 1.1.2 section will work on my 1.1.3 section. 1.1.3 firmware really doesn't offer very much to the typical end user (especially considering since we aren't benefitting from the new baseband) so I don't really see a point in upgrading. In fact, if you read the Featured page on the Installer it states "It is recommended that only developers upgrade their iPhone/iPod Touch to 1.1.3 at this time." There are lots of issues, with lots of things that don't work in 1.1.3, and frankly I would just wait until 1.1.4 and the SDK come out in February.

Hey, for some reason, when I've upgraded to 1.1.2 after upgrading from 1.1.1 and the OktoPrep and all and open up the Jailbreak JAR file, all goes well until its supposed to reboot. And the Recovery Logo just pops up on the Touch and the logs say at the end that it 'crashed'. It's been doing this for a while. How can I fix that??

your best bet is to restore to 1.1.1 and jailbreak with the jailbreakme site, it's upgraded and install okto prep autom. for 1.1.2 upgrade. Don't forget to repair your baseband, since u already tried to upgrade and it didn't work. i.no.unlock has that script.
