What was used: iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware .
The ability to add a preference setting in the keyboard menu that would affect auto correction was discoverd by "Zhivago" in this thread. I'm providing a modified .plist file to work with 1.1.2 firmware. You can't use older keyboard.plist files without reediting them. I will show you two methods for performing this hack, an easy method and a more moderately difficult method. I'm assuming you've jailbroken/activated and installed Installer and/or SSH on your iPhone already.Normally when you type in various programs, the iPhone tries to offer suggestions to misspellings. Some times it tries to correct things it shouldn't which are the most annoying, especially when it changes it without you being able to stop it (like in Safari). Until now, if you went to the Keyboard settings menu, there was nothing there that could help you.
Easy Method:
- Launch Installer and press the Install icon. Scroll down to the Tweaks (1.1.1) folder and press it. Press Kb2 and install it. When it has finished, press the Home button and then slide to unlock. Now press Settings, General, Keyboard and you will see the new menu entry and the slider.
- Make all the mistakes you want...
Harder Method:
- Download the modified Keyboard.plist file here. Decompress the file and place it wherever you'd like. I placed my file in my phonedmg112 folder.
- Launch WinSCP. With the iPhone's SSH turned on, navigate to the /Applications/Preferences.app folder. Copy over the Keyboard.plist file you downloaded, and click Copy at the pop up, click Yes at the next one. Press Home, Settings, General and Keyboard to see the new menu item.
